Alexis Dominguez-Ochoa

Acting Manager of the Community Economic Development (CED) Program at OCISO

With a background in Applied Linguistics and a specialization in second-language teaching, Alexis joined Ottawa Community Immigrant Services Organization (OCISO) in 2019 as a researcher supporting the development of the RAISE Workplace Language Training (WLT) Program. The RAISE WLT is a successful employment retention model that helps vulnerable newcomers with limited English skills improve their communication competencies to facilitate their integration into the Canadian workplace.

In June 2023, Alexis took the lead in the CED Program, and now he manages a diverse group of professionals in nine mentorship and employment programs. OCISO’s Mentorship model is a unique service in the community supporting internationally educated professionals to obtain employment in their field. In collaboration with partner agencies, the model has been successfully adapted to meet the needs of newcomers with diverse backgrounds such as pre-arrival newcomers, entrepreneurs, newcomers seeking employment opportunities in the public sector, and professionals in regulated careers, amongst others.

Alexis is passionate about empowering newcomers and visible minorities and advocates for resources and opportunities that facilitate their economic integration in our communities.
